Antonietta Collins

Antonietta Toni Gonzalez Collins (born in Mexico) is the Mexican American journalist. She's an ESPN anchor on news, and she hosts SportsNation often. Her first assignment with ESPN in 2016. The daughter of TV reporter Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta is bilingual since age nine. Her skill was instrumental in helping her get her first job as a production assistant for Univision Miami and Univision Miami, where she was a producer of shows like Nuestra Belleza Latina and Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud. Then she was hired by the CBS affiliate in St. Petersburg employed her as a sports reporter. In 2009, she relocated from Rio Grande Valley, Texas to work as an anchor for the newscast of the Spanish channel KNVO TV 48 Univision and Fox2 News. Reporters covered issues related to illegal immigration as well as drug trafficking in both Texas as well as Mexico. Also, she was a substitute for weather anchors, sports anchors and forecasters. She then anchored and reported at Univision's Dallas affiliate Deportes 23 where she was given more responsibilities. She created pieces for Major League Baseball ALDS ALCS and World Series as well Dallas Cowboys NBA postseason finals FC Dallas, and Dallas Stars. Apart from that she also co-hosted and produced Univision 23's Accion Deportiva Extra local sports show. Then, she became the sports host for the morning show on Despierta America Deportes. The same job was held as a sports anchor for Primer Impacto magazine and Contacto Deportivo on the UniMas Network. Antonietta Collins' parents were born in Veracruz Mexico. They moved at some point towards Mexico City, where Antonietta Collins was born on November 1985. There is an older sister. The family moved to Miami in 1992 following the departure from Mexico. In 1992, her parents separated then shortly thereafter in 1995 she remarried Fabio Fajardo, a naval engineer who passed away in the year 2006 after suffering from kidney cancer. It was on a holiday in the summer that she lived with her sibling living in Canton Ohio where the older Collins girl was offered the job. Antonietta was a senior in high school, yet she was clear about the career she wanted. So while assessing if Mount Union is the right choice for her, Antonietta visited the school. She discovered that she enjoyed the university as well as the fact that it had the program she desired. She graduated from school and was attended the university with a media studies major. The relationship she formed was long-lasting with her professor Mark Bergmann who was the supervisor at WRMU 91.1 FM, a station of which she was a member. He inspired her to be self-confident and his enthusiasm for journalism deeply influenced her. She was determined to live up to the expectations of him and not fail him.
